Isntree - Onion Newpair Cleansing Foam

I received the onion series from Isntree as a gift a few months ago. I can't explain to you how excited I was to receive a package as a gift all the way from Korea, from my favorite skincare company in the world 🤩

There was hardly a non-Isntree product that I didn't like, but even the best companies have their products that aren't for everyone. In my case, it's this soap.

I used it for a few days and started to notice a bad skin reaction. My eyes swelled up, and it looked like an allergic reaction. It took me a while to figure out that it was the soap because it wasn't an immediate reaction, and at first I thought I had developed an eye cream allergy. I'm usually not quick to blame soaps because they stay on the skin for 2 minutes and wash off, but it turns out that this is also enough to do damage.

When I stopped using it the swelling went down but my skin continued to freak out - after a few days I had a crazy outbreak of pimples (even in areas where I don't normally have pimples), and I have peeling eyelids that I am still recovering from.

I must emphasize that this is probably my individual experience because it seems that I am allergic to something in this soap (I hope it is not the onion, because I have the whole series 🫠). Just because it happened to me doesn't mean it will happen to everyone who uses the soap.

In terms of ingredients, the onion series focuses on treating scars. Onion can lighten scars, and the series also contains tranexamic acid- an acid that can lighten pigmentation and PIE spots. The problem is that I think these good ingredients cannot make a difference when they arrive in soap that is quickly washed off the face, and have to be left on the skin to make a difference. I feel that Isntree put these ingredients in the soap just for the gimmick, and if you notice the tranexamic acid is at the end of the list of ingredients in the soap. So I'll ignore the unnecessary ingredients, and let's only refer to what is relevant to the soap:

✅ Lauric acid - a cleaning ingredient that can also treat acne.

✅ Soothing and hydrating ingredients such as allantoin, panthenol, glycerin, turmeric, and other soothing plant extracts.

✅ fragrance-free, drying alcohol, or essential oils.

In conclusion, apart from my personal experience which was not pleasant at all, I think Isntree fell for a bit of a gimmick in this case. I hope that the rest of the onion series will be better, and that I am not allergic to the onion extract😅 I will update

Oh, and yes, there is an onion smell😂 (not too strong, you really have to make an effort to smell it, it's tolerable in my opinion).
