Advanced Clinicals AHA Body Lotion

Recently I started experimenting with more body care products, and it was also important for me to incorporate active ingredients into my body skin routine. This cream contains 10% alpha hydroxy acids - a combination of glycolic and lactic acid.

What are alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) anyway?

Alpha hydroxy acids are a family of acids that chemically exfoliate the skin - they help remove dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin and encourage its regeneration. They can improve texture, glow, spots and pigmentation, and even help the appearance of wrinkles. The most common acids are glycolic, lactic and mandelic acid.

Glycolic acid has a relatively small molecule and therefore penetrates the skin more easily and quickly. This can make it very effective, but also more irritating for sensitive skin. Lactic acid has a larger molecule, works more moderately and also has properties that help with moisture, so it is often more comfortable for sensitive skin.

It is important to know that alpha hydroxy acids increase the skin's sensitivity to sunlight, so while using them it is especially important to apply sunscreen (even two weeks later).

This cream contains 10% lactic acid and glycolic together, and we do not know the relationship between the acids. It also contains:

✅ Licorice - a soothing ingredient that can calm the irritation from the acids, and can also lighten pigmentation.

✅ Green tea extract and rosemary - soothing and antioxidant ingredients.

✅ Aloe vera - soothing.

✅ hyaluronic acid - to moisturize.

✅ fragrance-free, drying alcohol, or essential oils.

I applied it on the body, mainly on thick areas of the body, in the evening routine about twice a week. You can see and feel the difference from the first use - the skin is much smoother and pleasant, it smoothes the texture. After a few uses it is even noticeable. In my opinion, it should not be used every day, it is too much for the skin and it is effective even infrequently.

In terms of user experience, this cream, in my opinion, has advantages and disadvantages.

On the one hand, it has a very heavy texture, is not easily absorbed, and leaves a little white on the first application and you have to make an effort to absorb it. In addition, since it is fragrance-free, it has a very sour smell from the acids, which I'm not sure everyone can handle.

On the other hand, there is a huge amount of cream here in relation to the price, it is really very accessible. So for the price it is completely acceptable to me.

Note that if you do not use sunscreen on your body, it is not recommended to use acids. It can only cause you unnecessary pigmentation. I would also stop with the acids if you have a vacation soon (at least two weeks before). If you know that you are not 100% on body protection, it is better to leave the acids for the winter.

If your skin is sensitive on the body or you have skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis - I would avoid it completely or consult a dermatologist first.

The brand is cruelty-free 🐰❤️
